When I got to look at examples of the architect Shigeru Ban’s work in various parts of the world, I thought it was absolutely amazing. I just wanted to be a part of this.

Working with cardboard, however, was an entirely new experience so we subjected the new medium to tests to understand how it responded to cutting processes by trialling various machining methods to establish which would produce the best result.

We also considered what would happen if a tube was damaged so various pieces were manufactured in such a way that individual components could be replaced if required.
